How to Apply for a Historic Building Plaque

Preservation Zebulon is establishing the Historic Plaque Program in 2025 to encourage the preservation of Zebulon’s historic resources and to educate the public about the community’s heritage.

This program highlights the contributing structures to the Zebulon Historic District, designated by the National Register of Historic Places in August 2022. If you own a home or business in the district and wish to have a Historical Plaque, please fill out the application. Our committee needs 60 days to review.

We will install your plaque on your structure after it is ordered and received, and we do this twice a year. Also, Historic Plaque recipients will be recognized at our annual meeting in November each year. Our plaques are bronze and ordered in groups of four – so we need four orders to complete the request and get our discounted rate (which we offer to you.)

Price includes cost of plaque, PZ one year membership, and installation by a local tradesman.

Residential plaques measure 10″ x 14″ and list the historic name of the home and its date of construction. All plaques are cast in solid bronze and feature the original Preservation Zebulon logo. Plaques remain the property of Preservation Zebulon and will be removed if the historical integrity of the structure is damaged. No protections or design review come with the plaque; it is an honorary distinction only.

A structure must be located in Zebulon’s historic district, at least 70 years old, and its history must be thoroughly documented before it will be considered for a plaque or marker.

We can guide owners of properties, but we require that the majority of the application be completed before asking for assistance from the Historic Plaque Review Committee.

Pricing for plaques are as follows: $525.00 for 10.25″ x 14.5” and $675.00 for 12″ x 17.75”. The cost includes bronze plaque fabrication, installation and a 1-year membership (individual or family) to Preservation Zebulon.
