Another Legacy Furniture Store Takes Whitley Building

Jernigan Furniture, a Goldsboro-based family furniture business operated by one family for four generations beginning in 1924, will soon open in Zebulon.

With the purchase of the Whitley Furniture Galleries building on the corner of W Vance and Arendell Avenue, Andrew Jernigan, President of Jernigan Furniture said he plans to restore the building back to its original structure and to open the recreated space in September.

He and his restoration team have discovered some pleasant surprises along the way. “We’ve found windows that were covered up, solid pine flooring, and even an old entrance that was covered up. We’re taking this building back to its original form,” Jernigan explained.

Both stories of the building will be restored, with an office on the second floor, and plans for outdoor furniture in the rear of the first floor. “Jernigan’s will carry on a tradition of providing quality furniture and exceptional customer service,” he stated. “We’re excited to come to Zebulon and make this store a showplace.”
