Brian Bullock, owner of the the restored building at 104 East Vance Street, was awarded the Preservation Merit Award as part of the Zebulation event. Brian owns other buildings in Zebulon’s downtown area and plans to restore them with a preservation mindset.
Ruth Moss won one of two Preservation Merit Awards for her efforts in community service over the past 60 years, for chairing and leading the Zebulon Memory Project and in helping Preservation Zebulon as its first board member to become an established non profit.

Zebulation Event Is a Smash Hit!
On November 4, Preservation Zebulon honored two local citizens with its Preservation Merit Awards at its Zebulation Annual Celebration event. Preservation Zebulon honors local citizens or the properties and their owners who are active in the preservation, restoration, or rehabilitation of the architectural environment in Zebulon.
Brian Bullock received his award for initiating the preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of the building at 104 East Vance St. “He was the first person to take a leap of faith and invest thousands of dollars to preserve and restore a neglected building in Zebulon’s downtown,” said MaryBeth Carpenter, Executive Director of Preservation Zebulon. “His beautiful building with rich colors, large windows and unique exterior lighting has become an icon downtown.”
Ruth Moss received her award for helping form Preservation Zebulon as one of its first board members and for leading the Zebulon Memory Project Committee for the past five years. In both roles she has been a connector for the community, bringing in interviews and arranging filming sessions for long time members of the community.
Our Zebulation event also featured a film “Ruth Moss, Teacher and Community Leader” to a sold out crowd of 103 attendees at Olde Raleigh Distillery on 209 N. Arendell Avenue in Zebulon. The film detailed her experiences with tobacco farming, teaching in Zebulon schools, and Desegregation in the 1970s.
