Perry Mill Pond Event Draws Many in Community
On Saturday May 4, 25 locals visited this beautiful landmark and historic site at 5425 Pearces Road, Franklin County, Zebulon. Guests toured inside the re-created mill house and heard a presentation on the history of the site, where there has been a mill since 1778. This lovely site has been operated by the kin of the Frank Perry family for nearly 90 years.
MaryBeth Carpenter, Executive Director of Preservation Zebulon, gave talk of the origins and history of the various families owning this site and operating grist and saw mills here. Owner Frank Perry told tales of the millers, orchards, and antics on the property during his family’s ownership of it. Flooding after two hurricanes took down two of the mill houses in the 1990s, and guests watched video footage of the storms and damage they incurred.
Perry’s Mill Pond has been rendered in artists’ works over the years and has been the site of many weddings and photos for high school graduations, and parties for baptisms, anniversaries and family gatherings from the 1970s through the decades.
